This build was a challenge,- working quickly, getting the massive steel masts in place and anchored before the rising water-table filled the holes. All perfectly aliened with no margin for error. The installation was double sided and 25m long and over 5m tall, showcasing a brand new work.

We worked closely with the artist Cold War Steve and our friends at CC-Lab to build and curate a nation-wide, large scale exhibition coinciding with the Sky Arts Documentary. “Cold War Steve Meets the Outside World”.

His art work was shown in new, bold, ambitious and visually challenging ways.

Cold War Steve said: “The windbreak in Bournemouth is by far the biggest piece I have ever exhibited; it’s an engineering feat …. It is a celebration and hopeful piece about the UK…, looking at the values that make us great – inclusivity, compassion, diversity, charity and creativity; whilst the censored ‘other side’ deals with the dark underbelly of our society, the movements of intolerance, hatred and division – issues that should never be ignored, let alone covered up.”

One side of the art work reflects the positive side of UK life and culture and one presents the negative. As soon as the local council saw the art work they retracted their permission and insisted we either remove or cover the ‘negative’ side. So to prevent the image being seen by the public and the media, we had to cover the front with black drape.
